SALFORD CITY 2 FORMBY 1

City
showed why they are one of the bookies' favourites for the title with Tommy Turner and Jamie Baguley netting at home to Formby
on Tuesday night.
Salford had to come from behind
against last season's first division strugglers Formby. Turner headed home a Kevin Keigher cross to cancel out Lee Poland's
17th minute strike for Formby. Robinson, Turner and Rick Watson then missed good chances to put Salford in front before Baguley showed them how it is done. He dispatched a tremendous low drive into the bottom corner
to give City a deserved win.

Salford opened their new campaign with an impressive performance at last season’s Division
Two champions Winsford United on Saturday. The score line doesn’t adequately reflect the dominance City had
over their opponents in a game played in bright sunshine and hot temperatures. It took Salford just twelve minutes to open the scoring when debutant
Craig Buckley slammed the ball into the roof of the net, his first shot having rebounded off a defender on the goal line.
Fellow new boy Carl Howarth should have increased the lead following great link up play with Jon Robinson but he lost control
of the ball at the last moment. The first thirty minutes after the break belonged to Salford with their general play bringing positive comments from
home supporters. Howarth almost got to the ball in front of home keeper Michael Langley in the six yard box, a stinging left
footed Jamie Baguley drive was parried away by Langley and a Robinson header flashed the wrong side of
the upright.
